Day 1: Tbilisi Arrival
Early in the morning arrive in Tbilisi, meet in the airport and transfer to a 3 star hotel (optional upgrade possible)
Day 2: Tbilisi-Mtskheta-Kutaisi
After late breakfast drive to Mtskheta and visit its historic Jvari Monastery (6th century) and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (11th century) – both UNESCO World Heritage sites. Then drive to Kutaisi and visit the local market. Dinner and overnight in Kutaisi in a guesthouse with private facilities. (B/-/D)
Day 3: Kutaisi-Gelati-Zugdidi-Mestia
In the morning we visit Gelati Monastery and Academy (12th century), a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its frescos and mosaic. Then drive to Zugdidi and visit Dadiani palace (if not Monday). Afterwards it’s time to get ready for the most exciting part of your trip – a journey to Svaneti, the region of the highest mountains and glaciers and the most abiding ancient traditions. Dinner and overnight in Mestia in a guesthouse with shared facilities (B/-/D)
Day 4: Mestia-Mulakhi-Mestia
In Mestia we visit the traditional Svanetian house and Tower. Then we drive to the village of Ghamushi and then start our walk through typical Svanetian villages of Lakhiri and Mushkeli towards Mestia. In the evening we return to Mestia. Dinner and overnight in the private guesthouse in Mestia with shared facilities (B/PL/D). Up 350m Down 500m (Walking time 4-5 hrs)
Day 5: Mestia-Ushguli-Mestia
A three-hour drive by 4WD vehicles will take us to the highest permanent village in Europe – Ushguli (2200m). Ushguli, and generally the whole Upper Svaneti region, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The village is most famous for its abundance of watchtowers and this is where you get the view of the highest mountain in Georgia – Mt. Shkhara (5068m). We can take a leisure walk along the village narrow alleys, enjoy picnic and drive back to Mestia. Dinner and overnight at family guesthouses in Mestia (sharing facilities).
Day 6: Mestia-Gori-Uplistsikhe-Tbilisi
We drive to the town of Gori – the heart of Kartli region. Gori is the birthplace of Stalin, photo stop near his house. Then we continue our drive to Uplistsikhe Cave Town (1st millennium BC) – one of the main points along the Great Silk Road. Afterwards we drive to Tbilisi. Overnight in Tbilisi in a 3 star hotel.
